The Convergence is about to change forever. On April 15, the brand new Teamfight Tactics set will hit the live servers, bringing a complete wipe of the current champions, traits, and meta.
Right now, the most dedicated players are heavily testing the new set on the PBE (Public Beta Environment). If you wait until launch day to figure out how the new mechanics work, you are going to lose your crucial 5 Placement Matches.
To ensure you start the new season with a massive MMR advantage, we have analyzed the PBE data. Here are the 3 core mechanics you absolutely must understand before queuing up on April 15.
1. High-Risk Economy Augments
The new set is introducing highly volatile economy augments that will punish passive players. In previous sets, you could safely sit on 50 gold and slowly level up.
In the upcoming set, taking certain Gold or Prismatic augments will force you to drastically alter your leveling curve.
The Strategy: If you take an augment that rewards extreme loss-streaking, you must commit to it. Bleeding out to 30 HP to secure a massive cashout requires nerves of steel. You need to know exactly which turn to pivot and spend all your gold, or you will take a fast 8th place.
2. Flexible “Flex” Positioning Traits
Positioning your board has always been important, but the April 15 set features specific traits that change their buffs based on where you place your units on the hex grid.
The Strategy: You can no longer just put your tanks in the front row and your carries in the back corners and go AFK. You will need to actively scout your opponents and swap your units around in the last 3 seconds of the preparation phase to maximize your trait bonuses and dodge enemy crowd control.
3. The Power of Item Holders
With a massive pool of new 4-cost and 5-cost carries arriving, forcing a composition from Stage 2-1 will be a terrible idea. The PBE meta is currently dominated by players who use strong 1-cost and 2-cost units as “Item Holders.”
The Strategy: If you build a Bloodthirster and a Titan’s Resolve in Stage 2, do not leave them on your bench waiting for your late-game carry. Equip them onto a strong early-game bruiser. Use that unit to win rounds and save your HP, then sell them at Level 8 to transfer the items to your actual late-game carry.

Dominate Your Placements with PBE Experts
Understanding these mechanics in theory is easy, but executing a perfect pivot during a chaotic Stage 4 transition on day one of a new set is incredibly stressful.
If you want to guarantee a high rank right out of the gate, leave your 5 Placement Matches to the professionals. The Challenger boosters at GoBoost have been playing the new set on the PBE for weeks. They already know the secret S-Tier compositions, the perfect economy intervals, and how to manipulate the new augments for guaranteed Top 4 finishes.
