Your team played a fantastic early game. Your Mid laner is 5/0, your Jungler secured the first two Dragons, and you took the first tower. The clock hits 20 minutes, and then… everything stops.
Instead of expanding your lead, all five members of your team group up in the middle lane. The enemy team also groups up. For the next ten minutes, everyone just clears minion waves and throws random spells at each other. We call this the “20-Minute ARAM” (All Random All Mid), and it is the absolute fastest way to throw your hard-earned lead in the 2026 season.
If you want to climb out of Elo Hell, you must learn how to actually end the game. Here is how to break the ARAM trap, suffocate the enemy team, and safely destroy the enemy Nexus.
1. The 1-3-1 or 1-4 Split Push Setup
Grouping as five in the mid lane allows the losing enemy team to safely share experience and gold under their Tier 2 tower. To break their defense, you must force them to split up.
The Strategy: Send your strongest 1v1 champion (usually your Top laner) to the bottom lane, and your Mid laner (if they have teleport) to the top lane. The remaining three players stay mid. This is called the 1-3-1 setup. By pushing all three lanes simultaneously, you force the enemy team to make impossible choices. If they send two people to stop your Top laner, your group of three in the middle can instantly force a fight or take the mid tower.
2. Pushing the Vision Line Forward
You cannot safely take enemy towers if your jungle is completely dark. A lead means nothing if you step on a trap.
The Strategy: As your team pushes the minion waves past the river, your Support and Jungler must walk into the enemy jungle and place deep wards. This is called “pushing the vision line.” If you control the vision inside their jungle, you trap the enemy team inside their own base. They cannot walk out to farm neutral camps without getting instantly assassinated.
3. The Baron Nashor Trap (Baiting)
If the enemy team absolutely refuses to leave their base and cleanly defends their Inhibitor towers, you must force them to come to you using the ultimate bait: Baron Nashor.
The Strategy: Clear all enemy vision around the Baron pit using Control Wards and Oracle Lenses. Start hitting the Baron to bring its health down slightly, but stop before you take too much damage. Because the enemy team cannot see what is happening, panic will set in. When they inevitably face-check the river to see if you are doing Baron, you turn around and engage them. Winning a fight in the river is infinitely easier than diving them under their base towers.
Finding a Team That Knows How to End
Understanding how to close out a game requires a coordinated team effort. The most frustrating experience in League of Legends is having the macro knowledge to end the game, but watching your teammates continuously dive the enemy fountain and throw the match.
If you are tired of playing 45-minute games that should have ended at 25 minutes, getting some reliable teammates makes a world of difference. Setting up a fast solo boost ensures that a Challenger player, who inherently understands how to close out games efficiently, takes the wheel. If you prefer to be part of the action and learn how to end games cleanly, jumping into a duo boost allows you to follow a professional’s shot-calling in real-time. For players who want to practice split-pushing and macro without the pressure of their main MMR, picking up a premium ranked account offers a fresh start.
